OUP Activity Series–Never lose the game or let the student win?(Tic-Tac-Toe)

Never lose the game or let the student win?

You might need a little bit of strategy to get a grip on the situation, which makes both students feel motivated and a positive class atmosphere.

We bet you already know how to play Tic-Tac-Toe expertly.

But do students actually know about the game?

Demonstrating how to play the game might be a good start!

Check out the links below 👀 with classroom examples about playing Tic-Tac-Toe !

Those are great tips, Sophia. However, in reality I have found many of my students don’t know all the words, and just teaching them the words again and going through them and getting the student to repeat and understand them takes a good 2-3 minutes alone, sometimes even longer (being patient and not wishing to rush them!). So there really isn’t time to show them the rules with an example game beforehand and then playing the game with them properly…. 🙁

I think what Silke means is that some of the class material can be shorten to ensure all teaching material is covered, possibly.
Great tips Sophia, thank you for sharing! 😊

All that she is teaching will take a third of the class time. The tips were good but not very practical in their entirety.

Great tips Sophia, definitely the game is amazing but at the same time playing twice to let child win is time consuming ,so if time allows can be a hit and encouraging for the child to keep him motivated throughout the lesson.

I played this with one of my lower level students this last week. He LOVED it! He worked harder to say the words to win against me. It was so fun!

Yes, I have problems playing tic tac toe, will try this way, but often there isn’t enough time, so I just let them identify the pictures and maybe make a short sentence.

I encourage students to choose the picture even though they don’t know the word. They work hard and repeat the new word if they want to win. In the end, they win the game and new vocabulary. It’s a win-win when we don’t have time enough.
